Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway!!

Our wonderful supporter, Andrea Nelson, successfully completed her fundraising tandem skyjump with GoSkyDive earlier this month and now that her feet are firmly back on the ground, we caught up with her to get the lowdown and celebrate her reaching (and exceeding!) her fundraising target.

Andrea was taking on the challenge in honour of her grandfather who sadly passed away with Dementia last year. She wanted to thank Sight and Mind CIC for all the support we gave her family and continue to give her Nan as she navigates life after loss. Undertaking a challenge such as this is no mean feat and really does incorporate feeling the fear and doing it anyway!!!

Up, Up and Away

Andrea was finally able to get up, up and away a day after the planned jump which was rescheduled due to weather. Following all the standard safety inductions and checks, Andrea found herself in the aircraft at 10,000ft, waiting for her turn to jump out of the the plane. Andrea says “I was very nervous before the jump and felt very sick during it. Afterwards I felt very emotional as I reflected on my family member that had passed and also proud of the people that will be helped by the money that has been raised. I was also very grateful that I was alive and in one piece!”

We’ve seen lots of photos and videos taken on the day and it really does look amazing. We’re not quite sure we could have done it ourselves but we are hugely proud of Andrea’s achievement. Cecilia Toole, CEO Sight and Mind says “Thank you so much Andrea. Andrea has raised an incredible amount of money and we cannot thank her enough for choosing to take on this challenge for Sight and Mind CIC.”

To-date Andrea has raised £1360.00 (a whopping 906% more than her intended target) which will go such a long way in helping us to support individuals and families living with Dementia.
