Visual impairment Awareness Training VIAT Dementia Care & Sensory impairment
This structured programme will be aimed at those people who seek or require a greater understanding of the barriers that individuals with dementia and visual/sensory impairments face. We will explore how to support the individual through uncovering a greater understanding of their needs and an awareness of what they are experiencing.
Objectives – What will be achieved in the session
By the end of the training/session the trainee will be able to appreciate further the needs of the client:
Areas we cover:
- Visual Impairment
- Dementia
Activities-
We will be examining first-and experience of what the individual experiences are on a daily basis.
- Activities of Daily Living including how to effectively communicate
- Experience of eye conditions (SIMSPECS)
- Practical awareness of sighted guide
Evaluation – Gathering and understanding of the impact of the training
- Group discussion and interaction throughout the session (formative)
- Feedback evaluation form/survey from the train & trainers Session evaluation notes (Summative)
